Two Weeks: 24.10.–06.11.2025.
From leftfield pop to recontextualized folk and back.
Tonight (Friday, October 24) at Mayhem, Real Live is presenting Real Academy, an event featuring performances by Sodomland, Ryong, Heva Vaupel, Mori Mori, and Goat Arc. As usual, we can probably expect a gritty selection of club-leaning electronics, encompassing everything from experimental music to unpolished hyperpop. The event starts at 8 pm, and tickets can be purchased at the door for 70 kr.
The label and promoter Movement Shaped Like a Heart is bringing Gothenburg’s legendary pop weirdo JJULIUS and his live band to Copenhagen this Saturday, October 25. His latest album, Vol. 3, was released earlier this year via Mammas Mysteriska Jukebox and DFA. The show will take place at Valby’s UnderWerket starting at 8 pm. Tickets and more information are available here.
On Monday, October 27, Art Hub Copenhagen will host a book launch for The Four Spent the Day Together, the new novel by Chris Kraus, author of the notorious I Love Dick. The talk and reading will start at 7 pm at Art Hub’s new space in Nordvest. The 50 kr ticket includes a glass of wine, but hurry because there are few tickets left!
Remaining within the realm of discourse, the Copenhagen-based, multidisciplinary, and political group Crisis Mirror is hosting a series of screenings and discussions about gentrification, The Right to the City, at Folkets Hus. On Tuesday, October 28, they will show Andrea Zimmerman’s Estate, a Reverie. On Tuesday, November 11, they will screen Pau Faus’s Si Se Puede.
On Thursday, October 30th, the Copenhagen-based label FELT will present a strong triple-bill covering various facets of experimental music at Huset’s Xenon, starting at 7 pm. Coming in from Dublin is US composer and multi-instrumentalist Jasmine Wood. Representing the local scene are Lithuanian artist and composer Gintė Preisaitė and FELT head Fergus Jones with friends. Doors open at 7 pm, and tickets are 120 kr (or only 60 kr for students!).
Next Friday, October 31, is absolutely packed. Down in Sydhavn, KLEIN is going all out with a concert featuring a few of the new regional underground heavyweights. In anticipation of their upcoming sophomore album, Ephemeral, due out in November via Rhizome, Alto Aria is bringing their ethereal electronics to life with the help of Mads Krue Bugge on synthesizer and Mark Ibsgaard Gregersen on double bass. Pop trio haloplus+ will perform hot on the heels of their recent album, Musicality. Also performing is Swedish musician and producer Linn Osterberg with her intimate ambient project, Dimming. The event starts at 8 pm, and tickets are available here.
Rewild has yet to announce the lineup for their next party, but we know it’s scheduled for Friday, October 31, at Basement. That same night, FELT is hosting a party at Jolene with Dave Huismans (also known as 2562 and A Made Up Sound) and Fergus Jones behind the decks. Huismans’s new eponymous album under the In Transit moniker just came out on FELT.
One of the most eagerly awaited concerts this fall is set to take place on Monday (of all days), November 3rd at Rust (of all places). The new James K album, Friend, was released last month and is shaping up to be one of this year’s underground pop favorites. It’s arguably the perfect time to catch her live — if you managed to get a ticket, that is, because they’re sold out. Good luck to those who are late to the game!
On Tuesday, November 4, the film screening series Tusind Sole will present Kamal Aljafari’s With Hasan in Gaza, “a cinematic reflection on memories and loss, capturing a Gaza of the past and lives that may never be found again.” The screening will take place at the Empire Bio at 7 pm, and you can still get tickets here.
That same Tuesday, Klub Primi will host a double bill featuring Copenhagen Clarinet Choir and Oswald/Zeuthen. Copenhagen Clarinet Choir will perform a reworking of Carolyn Goodwin’s Compus Corpus, originally commissioned for the 2022 Organ Sound Art Festival. Danish saxophonist Jesper Zeuthen will team up with Swiss pianist Margaux Oswald for a collaborative performance. Doors open at 8 pm, and tickets are 100 kr (50 kr for students).
Wednesday and Thursday, November 5 and 6, are reserved for the second edition of Closer to Final Descent at Basement. This two-night mini-festival focuses on presenting different, recontextualized takes on folk music. On Wednesday, the Serbian-German trio Gordan, Copenhagen-based songwriter and composer Lipbalm, and Poland’s Kwiotki will perform. Thursday’s lineup includes the ensemble Jrpjej, the Indo-Californian producer Only Now, and the Danish songwriter, producer, and vocalist sophie-lou. More info and tickets are available here.
