Two Weeks: 14.11.–28.11.2025.
Darkwave, avant-pop, and, as usual, lots of experimental stuff.
On Friday, November 14, Alto Aria will celebrate the release of their album Ephemeral at ALICE. Their gorgeous second album is released the same day via the Copenhagen-based Rhizome label. The ALICE show will feature special guests, the UK duo Space Afrika, who contributed to the album.
Another pretty special event is happening on Friday, the 14th, nearby in Nørrebro at Stengade. I know none of y’all are particularly goth, but if ever there were a darkwave show you should see, it would definitely be Light Asylum. Shannon Funchess’s synth-pop project brings raw punk energy and a thunderous contralto to her recordings, as well as to her famously intense live performances. This Friday’s lineup also includes the US duo God Tongue and Pakistani artist She Can’t Afford Mascara.
This concert season has seen DR Koncerthuset step up its alt game, with recent performances by artists such as Anika and Molly Nilsson. Next Monday, November 17th, they have the American goth folk icon Marissa Nadler paying a visit. She’s touring in support of her ninth solo album, The Path of the Clouds.
The 18th (!) edition of the Festival of Endless Gratitude kicks off on Thursday, November 20th. The three-day festival will take place at Kildevæld Kulturcenter in Østerbro. Some of the lineup highlights include Kenyan ambient wizard KMRU; experimental singer-songwriter Kathryn Mohr; and DIY synth weirdo Finlay Shakespeare. Local heroes and international collaborations abound, including Heidemann/Mingot/Klint; Copenhagen Clarinet Choir & Anders Lauge Meldgaard; and G•Bop Orchestra performing The Scott Walker Songbook. Don’t miss out!
On Saturday, November 22, Night Journeys will present Disinblud, a collaborative project by experimental guitar hero Rachika Nayar and composer Nina Keith. The duo released a record earlier this year. The show will take place at Xenon, Huset’s top-floor venue.
No rest on Sunday, November 23rd, as the Cisternerne Museum in Frederiksberg stages a special performance by Berlin-based vocalist and performer Lyra Pramuk as part of Jakob Kudsk Steensen’s currently showing immersive installation, Psychosphere. There will be two live performances, one starting at 19h and another at 21h.
The MINU Festival, which explores the intersection of experimental music and other media, will take place from Wednesday, November 26, to Sunday, November 30 this year. Performances will be held at various venues across Copenhagen, including KUBE, Teaterøen, Xenon, KoncertKirken, and H15. View the full program here.
In a rare instance of fulfilling its purpose by screening an entire cycle of films by an international contemporary arthouse fixture, Cinemateket is showing films by the Romanian offbeat director, Radu Jude. And that’s not all, folks! All of the films have English subtitles, and Jude will be present for a Q&A on Thursday, November 27th. His hybrid film Kontinental ‘25 was one of the highlights of this year’s CPH:DOX. Check out the full program and grab your tickets here.
On Thursday, November 27th, Hotel Cecil will host Norwegian avant-pop luminary Jenny Hval. Anyone who has seen her in concert can attest that Hval is not only a talented wordsmith and pop experimenter, but also an excellent live performer. With yet another strong album added to her discography this year, it’s a very good time to catch her live. If you can snatch a ticket, that is.
Finally, on Friday, November 28, spellcaster will celebrate the release of their new album, The Shadow Channel, which was recently released via 15 love. Apart from a live performance by their summoned spellchestra, the event at Christianshavn Beboerhuset will also feature shows by Xenia & Francesca, Apple Tree, and Contacto. Hot tip!
