Two weeks: 06.05.–20.05.2026.
Everything's experimental.
This Wednesday, May 6th, Nørrebro’s Rust will welcome the UK electronic legends Seefeel, who are touring in support of their new album. The dubby Sol.Hz is Seefeel’s first proper full-length album in fifteen years, according to Warp’s press release, which, miraculously, also manages to squeeze in a reference to The Communist Manifesto. Seefeel first broke through in the early ‘90s with their signature blend of shoegaze and electronica, which got them signed to Warp and remixed by Aphex Twin, among other things. In recent years, they have released several mini-albums exhibiting remarkable form. Hot tip!
The following day, Thursday the 7th, Rust will host a show at Brorsons Kirke with Halvcirkel featuring Meldgaard. The string trio, comprising Mika Persdotter, Bettina Marie Ezaki, and Nicole Hogstrand, recently released a collaborative album with composer and multi-instrumentalist Anders Lauge Meldgaard titled Spirit. Yasu Yamaguchi’s project monk beat will also perform. Both Halvcirkel and monk beat also play Brønshøj Vandtårn on Sunday, May 10th, along with a solo performance by Pauline Hogstrand. The program starts at 19:00, remember to dress warmly!
Okay, a brief movie section! Cinemateket is kicking off a series of films by Japanese director (and Eiko Ishibashi collaborator) Ryusuke Hamaguchi. All the films will be shown with English subtitles, except for Drive My Car and Evil Does Not Exist, which you should have seen already anyway. Tusind Sole will also host a series of screenings at Cinemateket, dedicated to Guy Gilles, a lesser-known queer icon of the French New Wave. On Saturday, May 9, Husets Biograf is showing a triple feature consisting of all three movies on which the renowned French director Céline Sciamma and actress Adèle Haenel collaborated. (If you’ve only seen Portrait of a Lady on Fire, then you shouldn't sleep on 2007's heartwarming coming-of-age drama, Water Lilies.)
On Saturday, May 9th, Simian and Dansehallerne will host Slippery Melody, a one-day festival blending choreography, performance, and music. Curated by Karis Zidore, the festival will take place at Simian and feature performances by Simin Ramezanali, John T. Gast, Magdalena Forster, Luísa Saraiva, Maji Claire, and Deva Schubert with Chihiro Araki. Doors open at 18:00, and the program continues until 01:00.
That same evening at Ny Bastion, the Nowbahār event will explore artistic expressions across the Iranian diaspora through concerts and art. Copenhagen-based drummer and sound artist Jaleh Negari will open the evening with her installation, followed by live performances from composer Ava Rasti and percussionist Mohammad Reza Mortazavi.
Courtesy of the spring finally springing, the free outdoor program Byhaven is returning to Pumpehuset’s yard. On Sunday, May 10th, Radio Panini will take over the decks. The following Saturday, May 16th, Night Journeys will present shows by Bby Eco, Alto Aria, and Johan Rebien. All events are free!
On Wednesday, May 13th, Danish ambient electronic artist Hasfeldt will present “Play Me Like One of the Others” in the Lower Gallery at Nikolaj Kunsthal. The gallery’s 1930s organ will be incorporated into the performance. Hasfeldt released Play Me Like One of the Others on Real Live earlier this year. Doors open at 18:30 and the ticket includes access to the Alison Knowles exhibition, which you can view before the concert starts at 19:30.
For those looking to experience a little catharsis on Ascension Day, Thursday, May 14th, don’t miss the first event in a new collaborative series between Copenhagen’s Katharsis label and Malmö’s Retreat Radio. PASSAGE kicks off with a bang, featuring Slikback, a Kenyan producer and DJ known for his intense, bass-heavy sets. Also performing live are Copenhagen-based artists dragongirl and Katharsis’s own jjjacob, while Sweden’s ANIMA will handle the DJ duties. Gig of the week alert!
And that’s just the beginning of a heavy weekend, continuing on Friday, May 15th, at Mayhem. To celebrate the release of Hekt’s debut album, you can catch sets by Hekt himself, none other than Oli XL, as well as Copenhagen staples Ingrate and Xenia Xamanek. Doors open at 20:00, and tickets are 120 kr at the door. Xenia Xamanek is also performing at the third Hypoxia event on Sunday, May 17th, at Valby Kulturhus, alongside MaZu, Kim Mai Thordsen, Lorenzo Colocci, and Faun Vium. Find more information here.
Acclaimed Colombian experimental pop artist Lucrecia Dalt will perform at ALICE on Sunday, May 17th. She is touring with a full live band to promote her latest Juana Molina- and David Sylvian-featuring album, A Danger to Ourselves, released in late 2025. Another of the month’s highlights!
We’ll conclude this biweekly installment with an experimental banger, scheduled for Wednesday, May 20th at KoncertKirken. Folk Music is an improv trio of free jazz heavyweights assembled by trumpeter Nate Wooley, alongside percussionists Chris Corsano and Ches Smith. Danish saxophonist Lotte Anker will also perform. The event starts at 20:00, and tickets at the door cost 150 kr (or 100 kr for students).
